Missing cat:
Sooky is missing from Sth Golden Beach since 1/2/12. He is a 7 yr old male Himalayan Cross (short haired) cat and is desexed but not micro-chipped. Please phone Louise on 66804162 with any information regarding Sooky as he is much loved.
Foster Caring
This is one of the most important ways you can help CAWI. Since it doesn’t yet have a shelter, CAWI uses foster homes to house the rescue dogs until they are permanently re-homed. CAWI needs a list of potential Foster Carers to call on, because without them, it can’t save a single dog.
CAWI always does its best to match the dogs to the Foster Carers’ requirements and circumstances. That’s part of the problem: CAWI gets it right a lot of the time, and its Foster Carers often fall in love with the dogs in their care. When that happens, the result is usually Permanent Homes plus 1, Foster Homes minus 1, hence CAWI’s constant need to recruit more carers. See “What is a Foster Carer” below if you are interested in helping.
Any dogs listed on this page are dogs that CAWI already knows about and wants to rescue, but for which there is no foster home available. We urgently need carers for these dogs.
Henry
Henry is a smart dog and has a big personality, and a gentle affectionate nature. Everyone who meets him is totally smitten. He is very friendly and great with kids although he can sometimes be a bit too demonstrative for very little ones. He absolutely adores other dogs and human companionship. He’s fine with livestock, but chooks are a bit of a temptation. Henry doesn’t try to escape the yard, but would need a fenced area at least to start with. He mostly prefers to stay where he last saw his owners to wait for them to return. Henry is a big dog, so we are looking for an authoritative carer with good voice command.
Marni
Marni is a good looking, sleek, fit and lively one year old female kelpie. She has a working dog heritage (both parents are working kelpies), and is super-friendly towards people and dogs, but cats and chickens would be advised to steer clear. She already knows some basic commands.
If you can offer a foster home for Marnie she would be most grateful. Being stuck in a kennel is not her idea of fun.
What is a foster carer?
A foster carer is a special person or family that is willing to do something about animal welfare in their community. It can be heaps of fun for you and the dog, and it’s not permanent, so if you love having a pooch around but cannot commit to full time dog ownership, fostering is a win-win solution for you and the dog.
CAWI pays for all veterinary costs, food and bedding. All you have to provide is:
- Cuddles (lots of them)
- Walking (think of how fit you will become)
- Positive reassurance (definitely)
- Love (dogs loved to be loved)
- A fenced back yard or courtyard
Then it’s off to a suitable new home for the doggy and you can decide whether to take on another one or have a break.
Call us, email us, or fill in the Foster Carer Application Form if you are interested in helping a homeless dog. We try and match our foster carers with the appropriate dog so the information you provide to CAWI about yourself and your home is crucial.
Shop volunteers
The shifts at the shop are 3-4 hours long and are morning or afternoon. We would love to have some men volunteer to help in Shop 2 where the electrical and furniture items are sold.
Crafty Business
CAWI reaps the rewards of enterprising members of the public that love to make things to sell in the CAWI Op Shop. We are regularly given -
Beautiful potted and tenderly raised plants. Dog leads made from recycled fabric plaited. Incredibly comfy doggy beds made from recycled foam mattresses and beautifully covered. Lovingly painted water colours. Home made Doggy soap. Absolutely fantastic home made dog coats
If you have a special interest and talent and you would like to help fund raise please come and see Margaret at the Op Shop or send us an email.
We love community volunteers
Dog Transport
Sometimes CAWI needs a dog picked up and taken to a carers or the vets. It doesn’t happen that often but it is good to have a few names on our list to call on when it does.
Administrative Stuff
Please feel free to contact CAWI with your interests especially if you are good with a computer. We can always do with a hand for several associated tasks with the website, and data base.
