CAWI Dogs

CAWI Adoption fees: CAWI charges adoption fees to help cover the costs we have spent on the dog. Every CAWI dog is desexed, microchipped and vaccinated, plus up to date with parasite prevention. Our fees for adoption are $300 for an adult dog, $350 for a puppy and $200 for a mature age dog.

CAWI takes pride in matching dogs with the right homes. We can advise on the dogs’ suitability as we have the insight gained by our foster carers. In addition, there is a 3 week trial and cooling off period for you and the dog – if things aren’t working out CAWI will take the dog back. We don’t want any mistakes for you or the dog.
The dogs on this page are CAWI rescue dogs. Some non-CAWI dogs that are looking for new homes are advertised on the PRIVATE ADS page.
Pounds often have nice dogs – there are some choice candidates advertised ON THIS PAGE OF OUR WEBSITE. It’s also worth contacting your local pound.

Xena

Xena is a young sharpei cross who was rescued into a new home full of promise, but one of the existing dogs in this home took an immediate dislike and attacked her. She sustained numerous deep superficial wounds to both front legs and a broken foot, leading to emergency orthopaedic surgery followed by an amputation of one of her front legs. Despite the pain and uncertainty of her situation, Xena has shown strength, resilience and her ever-happy personality throughout all of this difficult experience. She has an infectious love for everyone and has not let any of these negative experiences dampen her joy for life. She still loves meeting and playing with new dogs, and absolutely has to say hello and get lots of pats from every person she sees! Knowing that his home situation was not suitable for her, the rescuer surrendered Xena to CAWI the Byron Dog Rescue to give her another chance at finding a forever home. Special thanks to the rescuer and Mullumbimby Vet Clinic who have kindly donated thousands of dollars towards her surgeries.

Xena is now ready to find her forever home! After a speedy recovery, she is a healed, healthy and happy dog. She is a true “3 legs and a spare” kind of dog, with a playful nature and heart full of cuddles. She has been in foster care living successfully with two fairly submissive and non-reactive dogs. She would likely be best as the only dog in the house as she can be a little possessive of her food and toys, but may be ok with another submissive, non-reactive dog. She does love to have a good romp around (3 legs does not slow her down!) so she would like to have frequent visits to the beach or park to socialise and play with other dogs.

If you would like to submit an application to adopt Xena, you can find the form online here: http://cawi.org.au/contact-us/ or pick one up from our Op Shop in Brunswick Heads. Alternatively, contact Megan on 0458461935 for more information. Applications are now being accepted and will be processed starting Friday 9th September.

If you would like to contribute to Xena’s fund, you can make a donation here: https://www.givenow.com.au/CAWImessage or at our Op Shop in Brunswick Heads.

Sage

Sage is an 8 year old staffy x cattle dog. He is a loving, affectionate dog who likes a good run on the beach, playing in the waves and enjoying the great outdoors. He is quite timid at first, but doesn’t take long to get over his shyness – he then loves meeting new people and having a chat with them! He is intelligent and knows his basic commands such as sit, stop, go and shake hands. He has plenty of energy for a middle-aged dog and would love to share his life with fun-loving, playful individuals! He does not like skateboards at all and would prefer to live in the countryside rather than in town. He would be best in a gentle, loving home who can give him a good diet and exercise to help him lose some weight. Sage loves to be by your side so would also love to be allowed inside for cuddles in the evening!

The adoption fee for Sage is $200. If you are interested in meeting and adopting Sage, please complete the Adoption Application form available on the Contact page of our website www.cawi.org.au/contact-us or you can pick one up from our Op Shop in Brunswick Heads. Please return forms by email to cawidogs@hotmail.com or in person at our Op Shop. Alternatively, contact Megan on 0458461935 for enquiries about Sage. Applications and enquiries will be responded to on Fridays.

Coco

UPDATE: 11/9/17 Coco has now been adopted!

Coco is a 2year old Greyhound with a sweet, gentle and friendly nature. After being found at a service centre with no owner in sight for over two days, he was rescued and given a second chance at a new life in the Byron shire! He was very skinny, even for a greyhound, but has been steadily putting on weight during his time is in foster care. As he gains weight and energy, his true personality is starting to shine, showing his love for people, dogs, the beach and life in general. He enjoys a quick run around but mostly likes just hanging out with his human. He can be a little shy in new situations but quickly warms up and will happily approach friendly new people and dogs. At home he loves cuddling up on the couch with his foster carer and being tucked into his nice warm bed every night. Please note he has not yet been fully tested with cats, livestock or wildlife. He has met one cat and showed no interest in chasing and catching her, in fact he seemed more interested in having a sniff and a play! However the cat was not running and was in fact moving very slowly so unfortunately we cannot guarantee he will not chase them and is probably best placed in a home without cats at this stage.

If you are interested in meeting and adopting Coco, please complete an Adoption Application form (found halfway down the Contact page of our website www.cawi.org.au/contact-us) or pick one up from our Op Shop at Brunswick Heads. Please return forms by email to cawidogs@hotmail.com or in person at our Op Shop. Applications will be processed and enquiries about Coco responded to on Friday.
