Adopt a Dog

CAWI takes great pride in matching dogs for adoption with the right homes. We can advise on the dogs’ suitability as we employ a professional dog trainer/handler to give an opinion, as well as having the insight gained by our foster carers.

There is a 3 week trial and cooling off period for you and the dog – if things aren’t working out CAWI will take the dog back. We don’t want any mistakes for you or the dog.

You can find contact details and application forms on the CONTACT US page.

NOTE – Non-CAWI dogs that are looking for new homes are advertised on the PRIVATE SURRENDERS page.

Kuda

This young lady has a beautiful nature and is a gentle girl who loves to play with other dogs and cats! She is good with children, is happy to fit in with family life and is loyal and loving. For a pup she is surprisingly smart and picks up commands quite easily. If you are into big dogs, Kuda could be the girl for you.

Charley and Pippa

Charley and Pippa are a couple of friendly old dogs who need a new home. Extended stays in hospital for their elderly dad has meant big changes for this lovely couple. It was with great regret that they were surrendered as they are good dogs that have enjoyed a settled life together. They are affectionate, bond with people very quickly and get on well with other dogs. We hope that they will find a home together as they follow each other around and have been best friends for life. Despite their advancing years, they are really happy to be walked. Pippa and Charley have had full health checks and passed with flying colours, although Pippa could do with shedding a few pounds.

Shayla

Shayla is a Rhodesian ridgeback crossbreed that was rescued from the pound. She goes to the beach daily with her foster mum and dad, behaving perfectly – playing in the water and with other dogs and returning instantly when called. Shayla is a very quiet dog, loves a pat and a cuddle, and is very loyal. She is not at all aggressive just a little tentative, when first meeting people. Shayla gives up her ball at the beach if there is a competition and happily waits for it to come her way again.  The Byron rangers who originally had her in the pound and the local vets commented that she is really delightful and a very happy soul. This young girl has a lot of love to give and an easy going personality. She is not a barker or an attention seeker.

Spotty

This young man has come up trumps in his professional dog assessment!  There is a detailed assessment available to view but this was the dog trainers conclusion: ”Spotty is a fabulous dog with huge potential. He desperately wants to please and looks to the human for guidance. He would suit relatively active people who would enjoy taking him for an off lead walk every day. He is highly trainable and is very food oriented. Due to his enthusiasm for life he probably would not suit a family with young children but would be great with teenagers. He is extremely trusting and will develop a bond with you immediately, liking nothing more than a cuddle and some loving.”

Buster

Big Buster is a reluctant surrender due to medical emergency in his family. Buster would make a terrific family dog who is good with children, loves to play with dogs he meets at the beach, is a water boy (typical Lab) and very bouncy. Buster is still in puppyhood and will need some training but is very happy to oblige.  He will not touch his dinner until told he is a Good Boy! Will sit when told and is a great big loveable guy. He has a couple of nick names – Sir Lick a Lot – he loves to lick your feet when you come home – or Buzzy Boy, as he if full of life.   His pedigree papers came with him and Buster has always had his vaccinations and heartworm injections kept up to date.  This well loved boy misses his family and is pining for some real family time again.

Update 16/5/12 Buster proved enormously popular and will be going on trial tomorrow

Dali

Dali is a lovely little dog whose elderly owner has had health issues and has therefore been forced to surrender him. He is affectionate, intelligent and fit and loves company. He especially likes going for walks (he walks very well on a lead, and comes when called), and he is a great passenger in the car. He never says “no” to a cuddle either!

Rodney and Silky

Rodney and Silky are an adorable sweet-natured but slightly reticent pair of 4 year old Silky terriers. Silky is the more outgoing of the two and wiggles her hips and wags her tail at the slightest sign of attention. Rodney is rather wary of strangers, men especially, but he can be won over by any friend of Silky’s, and loves to be petted by people he trusts. These quiet little silkies require a patient approach to win their trust, but they will demonstrate their loyal, affectionate and cheerful natures in the right home.

They are independant, no trouble at all, easy-going, undemanding little dogs, and they hardly ever bark either! They are very well-behaved in the car and love going for walks, when they will happily follow their carer whether they are on or off the lead. They have been together almost all of their lives, so CAWI is looking for someone who can adopt them as a pair.

Update 15/5/12 Rodney & Silky are going on trial (together – hurrah!)

Roger

Roger is a 1 year old maltese cross. He really likes the beach, and wouldn’t say “no” to being walked morning & evening if he’s living inside. He loves playing games e.g. fetch, and tossing his soft toys around, but he knows better than to chew the upholstery. His previous owner says he does tricks (including jumping!), but we’re not sure what his full repertoire is. A dog of hidden talents, perhaps. Roger’s foster mum reckons Roger would make a wonderful dog for a family with kids – he’d happily entertain them for hours. He thrives on human company, loves to snuggle up in bed at night and will keep your feet warm all winter if you let him!  He is a little smoocher and extremely loveable! We are looking for a great new home for this perky little chap.

Update 7/5/12: Roger’s three week trial period has started – he’s on a property with another dog and some peacocks and goats for company

Fritz

This adorable boy is one of 3 surrendered puppies from the same litter. He is curious, affectionate, highly intelligent, playful, cuddly and has heaps of personality – likes to explore within his yard, enjoys his bones, his tucker and his toys. Fritz will make a great family pet or playmate for a like-minded mutt – he is also quite happy at his foster mum’s to hang out in the yard by himself. He loves games and pats, sleeping soundly when worn out. Fritz makes no attempt to escape, even if the gate is accidentally left open – he is a real homebody and has no inclination to wander. Fritz is a first class dog with a handsome face and a very sweet nature. At the moment he is in foster care with another dog, alpacas, cats and chickens and gets along with them all.

Piccolo

Piccolo is a very happy girl at the moment as she is living with her sister at a foster home.  She is such sweety with her playful affectionate nature that she will be hard to resist!  She plays very well with other dogs, loves a game and a smooch and relaxes when the fun is over.  This great looking dog with an exceptionally happy temperament will make a fantastic family dog.  She has a brother – Fritz, and a sister – Molly who all display the same qualities.  Her foster mum says the girls are very smart, very energetic atm ( they are puppies after all) and very willing to learn.

Molly

This terrific little girl will charm the sox off anyone that meets her.  She is so so CUTE!!!  Molly is now with a CAWI foster mum. Since being at her foster home Molly and her sister have been toilet trained, learnt good manners and to come when called. She is smart, affectionate and ready to attend puppy classes. Molly shows a lot of tendencies of a Jack Russell, is very smart, perky but not pesky and a bit of a homebody.

Scarlet

Scarlet is a pretty six month old puppy, in need of a home where she will have the company of another dog or two (she craves canine company) and more space to run around in. She has been restricted to a suburban back yard and because of a demanding young family was not getting the exercise or attention a bright young Kelpie needs. She’d be great on a property, OR living with a family who will be happy to take her for nice long walks every day. She is submissive with other dogs, has a sweet personality and should be easy to train once she knows the ground rules. Scarlet gets on well with cats and absolutely adores young children.

Update 22/4/12 Scarlet has been snapped up by a savvy farmer! Lucky Scarlet will spend her 3 week trial period on an organic farm.
